Since opening, PB Studio has aimed to provide a space for athletes and health enthusiasts to enjoy their own personal journey to fitness and wellbeing. We realise that everybody is an individual with different fitness goals, so we have tried to create an environment where a once-a-week warrior will get as much pleasure from their workout as the racing snake will enjoy achieving another personal best.
No matter what your reason for training at PB Studio, Laurin and James take pleasure from pushing you as far as you want to go.
The three main areas of expertise at PB Studio are Pilates, bike power training and bike fitment (see below).
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving posture and flexibility. Pilates, which uses both equipment as well as body weight and resistance, tends to target the core muscles, but will work other areas of your body as well. The exercises almost always involve slow, precise movements and breath control.
“PB Studio believes in Pilates as a form of exercise because it is a full-body workout that will help you do everything better,” says Laurin, who has been practising and studying Pilates for more than 14 years. “It strengthens and stabilises your core, which is the foundation to a strong and healthy body.
PB Studio offers hour-long group classes for Pilates at our Somerset West, Vyeboom and Grabouw studios, with monthly rates for once-a-week or twice-a-week sessions. Laurin also offers private Pilates training and we happily accept “walk-in” visitors on a class-by-class basis if there is space (please book in advance to prevent disappointment).

The best way to train for cycling is simply time on the saddle, right? Wrong.
That old 1990s style of training may have worked for your mum or grandfather, but the advent and proliferation of heart-rate monitors and, more recently, power meters means every level of cyclist now has easy access to more scientific, efficient and effective training methods. PB Studio uses the tools available, as well as a wealth of experience and knowledge, to structure personalised training plans that enable clients to achieve new levels of success.
We work with you to achieve your goals and set new personal bests. We do not work directly with elite riders because we believe that every client’s goals are as important as the next.
With local and international stage-racing experience, Laurin and James both have the know-how to structure training for ultra events such as the Cape Epic while balancing the needs of work and family.
“The best riders no longer spend the most hours in the saddle,” said Swiss Epic and 12-time sani2c veteran James. “The most effective and efficient way to improve performance on the bike is with high-intensity, periodised training plans that are structured to ensure riders build to a peak without over-training.”
Our 60-minute power training sessions are offered at the Vyeboom and Somerset West studios. Each class is structured with a specific training goal in mind using the Perfro program so riders are able to use the group sessions to train for a specific event.

A proper bike setup using the ErgoFit Fitment Process starts with an in-depth assessment of the riders’ cycling history along with measurements to determine the basics such as height, leg and arm length. Crucially, James or Laurin will also determine your flexibility and trochanteric leg length to ensure the bike fit is customised for you and not just any rider of the same height and similar measurements. Using YOUR numbers. the PB Studio team will apply these measurements to accurately advise you on the correct frame size and/or adjust your bike so it is perfectly set up to maximise your body and your riding style.
Both Laurin and James have completed ErgoFit Bike fitting courses while Laurin has also studied “cycling science” at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA). A personalised bike fit can be booked at both Vyeboom and at the new Somerset West Studio.
